Spijker Pinotage

Spijker is named after the favourite bull of wine legend Duimpie Bayly, who was one of the great ambasadors for Pinotage. We created the Spijker Pinotage to honour our Pinotage mentors – Duimpie, Prof. Eben Archer and Prof. Piet Goussard.

Duimpie’s legend (as well as that of his bull Spijker), and those of our other mentors, will now live on! Join us in raising a glass in celebration of their legacies.

The vinification of extremely healthy grapes, with small berries and a deep, black colour, result in a wine of tremendous complexity.

On the nose, the Spijker Pinotage displays abundant aromas of ripe black plums, layers of spice, vanilla, cranberries and a hint of liquorice. The palate is packed with flavourful elements of black cherries, plums and black berries. The sturdy tannins are in perfect balance with the fresh acidity and rounded oak flavours. A satisfying, classical Pinotage showing all the essential varietal characteristics. Enjoy on its own, or with a variety of dishes such as mussels, Thai curries, duck, venison, bobotie, spicy Asian cuisine and braaivleis!
