Much-loved South African wine and food commentator, Michael Olivier, recently had some very positive things to say about our Spijker Malbec and Bessie Sauvignon Blanc.
Says Michael:
“One of the finest, in my opinion is this one. One amongst some 25 producers in South Africa. In the glass, a gembright bloodplum at the heart which pales out towards the edges. The aromas are of juicy ripe fruits, desiccated cherries, and sappy red and black berry fruits. The palate is plush and soft, with ripe tannins. From entry is has a gentle acid and tannin line. Such an eminently drinkable wine by Annelie. Perfect as a sipper before or after a meal. Perfect with Ilse van der Merwe’s Slow-Roasted Lamb Shoulder on Herbed Couscous with Mint and Peas.”
